(Home) Smoke

Hello, all,my 1989 4WD Townace Super Extra has started to produce a lot of white smoke, it only seems to happen when engine is restarted after a run(when engine still hot),and there seems to be a mis-fire for a few seconds. After about 200yards the smoke clears and all is ok,have to get this sorted as we nearly choked half the school whilst collecting kids, regards.Have been unable to check archives as I have been experiancing trouble with my computer also.

White smoke is usually associated with water in the cylinders on a diesel, I assume yours is a diesel, you didn't say.

This is normally produced on a cold engine with the condensation in the cylinders. On a warm engine it could mean problems. Get the cooling system pressure tested to see if water is leaking into the cylinders somewhere.

Otherwise are you right with it being white, nit slightly blue, blue would suggest oil burning via rings, valve stems or turbo.

If it truly is white smoke and not steam (smoke lingers, steam evaporates...)It could very well be vaporised but uncombusted fuel. I'd look closely at the fuel system. Check for leaks around the filter, a change mightn't be a bad idea too. After that, you'd really need a specialist to pull the injectors and check them for leakage & pattern. Get a compression test done, and have the timing checked also.

Problem appears to have been uncombusted fuel, put Wynns injector cleaner in, and smoke and mis fire have now gone.
