Hi

Have got a j reg t/l/a 4wd 70,000km. recently had new timing belt and service.

Overheated and engine cut out. Hasn't started again since. When checked rad complketely empty. when cooled filled rad but if attempts to start engine turns over and blows water out of rad overflow pipe.

No oil in water no water in oil.

any suggestions?

do you trust your service people fully?

Hi,

Been chasing a cold start problem on my Liteace. Its a 88 petrol 3y 4wd auto.

I've discovered that if I close the choke flap by pressing it with a finger so that there is about 1mm (when not pressed its about 2-3mm) clearance between it and the carb body the engine starts fine. I can then let go and it will idle perfectly.
On carbs I've worked on in the past I could adjust the choke flap clearance but on this one even after disconnecting the linkage to the throttle actuator and loosening the auto choke mechanism there still seems to be something stopping it from closing.

So does anyone know what the choke flap clearance should be and how to make this adjustment on this vehicle?

many thanks,

Justin.

Apologies Carol,

I managed to post my post as a reply to your post - doh!

Anyway your problem sounds like serious breach between combustion chamber and water jacket. Could be a head gasket or more seriously a holed block.
If the service was really recent then I'd take Pauls advice and start asking questions.

Justin.
