hi sorry to bother you all but im completely confused as to were vac pipes go maybe its just me cause its getting late but the posting on http://mpvi.net/ia/ia005462.htm seems to contradict its self there seems to be 3 different opinions as to were the vac pipes go,no disrespect to ian dunse as regards his explanation +photo but is ther a clearer picture of the layout of these pipes? i cant seem to see most of the letters (maybe its my colour blindness)as i said no disrespect intended... with regards to egr valve is it necessary to have pipe "l"fitted at all as this only seems to go to"j" which in turn goes to"k"egr?which everybody says to disconnect or is this me reading everything wrong?mine is only a 2wd 2.0td masterace 1991 is the vacpipe setup different? while im on a big thankyou to dave mason for temp gauge mod its working a treat. thanks to all ,hope this post doesn't confuse you all as much as i am cheers john

Hmm, it's confusing if you're not used to it. Simply, if you want to get rid of ALL the EGR related gubbins, follow the vacuum hose from over the top of the engine (usually beside the throttle cable). It will then "T", with one leg going to the solenoid valves bolted to the body (idle-up, and aircon idle-up) {M in the photo}; the other leg will go to the EGR contol solenoid. You can disconnect and cap that leg of the "T", and the EGR system is then dead and can be removed if you so desire.

Now from your description, it sounds like that has been done already, as the small-bore pipe L *should* be the vacuum supply to the valve...

So valve "J" may be removed if you want.

hi dave thanks for speedy reply ,so just to recap both my pipes that come over the engine i.e M+L both come from vac ummp on side of alternator is this right?do i blank L off as well as on mine this feeds J.so in effect there should be no pipes attached to J or K .shall i also disconnect the wires which run to j or leave them alone thanks hope this isnt becoming a headache for you.john

Sorry I posted to your reply on the other thread.

Yes it is getting confusing but I think it is as both you and David have said. You can remove the thin pipe coming over the top of the engine. I sealed it off at the alternator side by melting the plastic tube to form a 'weld' with a lit match. Dave Bright suggests you leave the electrics connected if not removing the whole EGR system and blanking off the inlet and exaust manifolds. If you intend remove the complete system I could probably send you photos of mine if still confused.

Hello I would really appreciate it if you can send me the pics too. I dont have a townie but my toyota has a 2c engine too. Have had the 2c on for 2 years now. Ive been wondering why i dont get much mileage from it. 2c's here are very popular coz its cheap (around us$350), fast, fuel efficient and more durable than the newer 2c's with the vacuum on top. The mechanics here tell me the vacuum is only good for the airconditioning (which has been disconected too because my compressors oversized). But now I see its also connected to the turbo somehow. Mine has no connection to ANYTHING (except the idle up before). Is there anything I should be doing with it? If you can please send the pics to jpatricks1@yahoo.com it would help me a lot. Thanks and good day.

Ian, if you have improved the pic then could you send it to me too. This morning I saw that I still have the 85k original you sent me and I intend to upgrade the version published on AA, but if you've already done some work on it then it could save me time.

Not sure what you mean by improved Dave? My engine compartment looks different from that original picture now after removing the EGR assembly and vac pipes. Certainly not the norm for the majority of owners but happy to send you the pics if interested.

Ian
