(Home) Bodywork rust prevention

Now that winter is getting closer I want to rust proof my Townie. What is the best form of rust prevention? Is Waxoil OK or do any of you know about or use something else.

A good steam clean, or power spray on the underside first, with a long (overnight) drying period. Waxoyl will go on over dirt/grease/oil/water, but you will just be creating a corrosion haven.
Stonger protection around the wheel arch, Waxoyl do one for that also, and then Waxoyl all over the underside and in all box sections, behind all panels.
Warm the Waxoyl first and keep it warm else it turns to semi solid grease!

and don't forget the smell of that waxoyl!!!! oooh was that an interesting job!!

I'd thin the first coat with white spirit as per instructions on tin.....better for seeping into seams...despite what it says on the tin I'm not convinced its harmless to rubber....the beauty of waxoyl though is its easily available.....but best to top up each year.....
I like the clear..because its see through....nasty things can happen under these thick black underseals without you realising..
Dinitrol is a respected but more expensive brand.....
I'm in the processs of doing an old 110 landrover...but before the waxoyl I'm using 5 ltrs of 'duck oil' 1st(local motorfactors). Now that really stinks....waxoyl smells like a cake shop by comparison.
Waxoyl and future welding do not mix, so bear this in mind.
Some people use old oil cut with a bit of deisel.......whatever you use don't assume its done and thats it...have a good poke round every year.
The smell will gradually disappear after a couple of weeks or so.....use a good coverall, hat, gloves and maybe mask a goggles if you spray...cause you will be covered head to toe.....also make sure it doesn't get on the brake discs.....love rustproofing..its satifying to know a good job has been done...and makes up for the hell you went through doing it....what a waffle..i'll get me coat

I'd go along with Chris 100%. Waxoiled a Triumph Spitfire 4 years ago, and still no signs of rust. But, don't put it too close to areas where you are likely to be carrying out regular service/inspection work. It stays very sticky and, as I found out, can be a real nuisance if it gets all over you when simply checking the oil/water etc etc.
