(Home) Radiator cap

A little while ago I took receipt of a G reg space cruiser that my husband wanted to do up.Well he did it up and after alot of work he went to start it up only to find he had lost the radiator cap.Now we have looked literally every possible place it could be to no avail. So we tried to get a replacement, easy we thought.Anyway the problem I have is Toyota say there is a choice of 2 for my vehicle,a Denso,or a Toyo and apparently they can't be interchanged. Is this right? If it is how do I find out which one is the right one without the original cap for comparison.Sorry to be long winded but you know how it is.

Apparently the 2 types are different enough to cause problems if you get the wrong one.Or so my local,26 miles away,Toyota says. The problem is what will happen if I get the wrong one?Can it do any damage?Neither myself or my husband are what you might call experts so we wouldn't know what to look for if it is right or wrong. We just can't afford any mistakes

When I had my Space Cruiser before I exchanged it for a Townie I needed a new radiator cap. Bought one from my local Halfords without any problem. Only one was listed for the Space Cruiser, in fact it will also fit my 2.0 litre petrol Townie. What engine is in your Space Cruiser? It is possible that the radiator cap for the 1.8 litre is a different fit than the more common 2.0 litre.

Not sure if there were any changes between the 1800 and 2.0. Either way Toyota can check against VIN number and or year, G reg being the youngest version Spacecruiser.
Perhaps it is the same choice as with the the Townace - older spring type or newer float type - both fit the filler neck. Float type should be better for draw back from the expansion tank.

I gave them all the numbers and the guy said there was a choice of 2.All my husband remembers of the old one is it had a rubber washer type affair just like most caps
