(Home) Vacuum or no vacuum

with a lot of help from reading this site, am now getting to the final stages of the 2ct heart-transplant in my series i land rover.

looking at ian's excellent pic of the townace vacuum plumbing system, my setup consists of the supply line 'm' and the vacuum servo 'c'. valves 'a' and 'b' and related ppipes 1,2,3,4 and n are present as i do not have an aircon unit.

1. for normal operation, should the vacuum servo receive vacuum supply continously from 'm' - in other words, should i just plug 'm' straight into 'c'? or should 'c' be left without vacumm supply altogether.
(reading how 'a' and 'b' work, i guess 'c' doesn't need continous vacuum supply, but it would be great if someone could confirm it.)

2. in case 'c' doesn't need vacuum supply, should 'm' be blanked off or should it be vented into the atmosphere rather? (as discussed here before, i do not have a vacuum boost operate brake system and blanked off the 'thick' pipe on the alternator/vacuum pump supplying vacuum to the booster unit.)

many thanks!

cheers,

v.

1. C will increase the idle speed if fed with vacuum so it should be left without vacuum supply.

2. M should be blanked off, you are using vaccum anywhere then.

Oops, I meant to say ...

2. M should be blanked off. You are NOT using vacuum anywhere then?

many thanks dave! no, i don't have use for vacuum in the car at all. wish i could ditch the vacuum pump altogether, but with the engine oil-supply going to it, i'll leave it in place for now.

it's amazing how much simpler the vacuum and pressurised air plumbing is now that the e.g.r is removed. literally have a single hose deilvering pressurised air from the turbo to 'g' only. used one of the salvaged t-pieces to banch off a link to a mechanical turbo pressure gauge, which nicely rounds off my instrument panel.

cheers,
