(Home) Spacecruiser alternator

Does anyone know if the alternator from any other Toyota will fit a 1990 petrol spacecruiser?
Also, does anybody have the heater fan speed coil thingy that fits in the bottom of the fan cowling?

Sorry forgot to mention, 3y engine 2 litre, colour silver with four wheels on the ground !!
This is the lightweight model with strategically placed rust holes for weight saving!!

Sorry I can't advise on compatability of alternators but have you cosidered just changeing the brushes or has something else packed in?
I have a Lite-ace and repaired my alternator three years ago by stripping it, I matched the brushes in a washing machine repair shop(a perfect match too)they just solder in, The pair only cost me £1.
Hope this helps.

Hi Dave.
Has your unit got a serious fault or is it just the brushes?
I have a lite-ace and managed to match up and replace the old brushes from a electrical repair shop for £1 the pair, That was 3 years ago and all is well (or did I just jinx things?)
Sorry I can't help you with the rest.

Thanks for the reply Ian.
All warning lights were coming on and when i tapped the alternator with a small hammer they went out so I was also assuming it was the brushes.
I look forward to the day that I can actually get out there and remove the unit (without snorkelling gear).
The weather where I live is like a tropical rain storm at the moment, the weather forcast says reasonable on Saturday so I should be able to get around to it.
Thanks for the advice.

Just be thankful that it can be removed without taking the drivers seat out!
For those who don't know the 3Y alternator is where the A/C pump is on a 2C engine.

Glad to be of help Dave.
Sorry about the two replies I didn't see the first message straight away and assumed it had failed.
The only thing I found with the alternator is the bolts can be tough so make sure you have a good fitting socket as I nearly rounded the first one.

Aint I the lucky one !!
All bolts on the alternator were easy, and I just happened to have a spare set of Black & Wrecker drill brushes that are a perfect fit (after a bit of judicial emery). It's not as bad a job as I first thought.
Thanks to one and all I am a little happier.

Now where did I put that 25ltr of body filler?
