(Home) Power steering pump

hi all! pas pump just packed in.... boy are these heavy cars to drive!!! front bearing has colapsed. had a look round ace answers, but need some confirmation. the 6303-2rs bearing seems to be what people have gone for, but one question. if the 2rs stands for 2 rubber seals as suggested, and according to the diagram and what i've seen so far, my pump only has one seal, ( on the inside ), will this cause me a problem??
also, do i need to remove front cover from pump, or can i just remove circlip and gently persuade shaft/bearing to come out together?

thanks!

2RS is basically sealed for life whereas single seal will just have a shield on the other face, handy if it's in a housing that's packed with grease. Remember that this is just the seal IN the bearing, nothing to do with the actual pump and dust seals...

I recall the shaft and bearing being a pretty tight fit and there's only quite a small circlip retaining them internally, so I'd definitely strip the pump and drift them out from behind- less chance of damage.

thanks david,
one more thing. read some details on ace answers as i said, but there is a discrepancy! the article i read said the dimensions were 43mm outside dia and 23mm inside dia. however, my bearing, when i got it out, was 47mm outside dia and 17mm inside. will the 6303 bearing fit??
also, can the pump with the woodruff key fitting be altered to move pulley forward. a local breakers wants £30 for a pump, but when i started to strip it out i found it was the wrong one. might be worth getting it out as a spare if it can be made to fit!

thanks again!

I made a spacer to convert one pump type to t'other, but when the pulley is lined up, you don't have too many threads left for the nut. Works tho.

6303 is 17x47x 14deep. Hmm. I wonder if the dimensions you have are for the alternative pump, or maybe for the oil seal- neither 43 or 23 are standard sizes...

thanks again david. yup, got a 6303 on order £6.80. much cheaper than replacing pump ;-)
might get that other pump as a spare seeing as it can be made to fit!
