(Home) Fuel sensor / float

Do I have to take the tank out to get to it or is there a hole in the back floor?
Has anybody have one of this spare?

Thanks

Tank out, but have you checked that the wires are all ok and cleanly connected.

Thanks Clive,
I will check wires. Also yellow warning light on dash does not work and I run out of fuel in the middle of the quarter mark. I presume its wiring or float so will drop tank.

Thanks

Trace wires to a connector or so away from tank. measure resistance with clips on meter leads. add a gallon or so. if resistance changes, may not be your float! Add another gallon or fill and check meter again. This will assertain whether your float is this problem. I had a petrol hilux that ran out before E, bugger got me a couple of times.. ps: clean connections and crimp up spade connectors a little if they are floppy female onto male

Hang on a mo. The warning light on these things is operated by a thermistor, not the float arm. They aren't related.
You might want to check the gauge end a bit more- fuses, low fuel light bulb, screws holding gauge to instrument pcb, and trace the wiring back. See, when there's a bad connection to the sender, the gauge will head towards "O". Yours is staying high which implys the float sticking, but that wouldn't explain the light not working.
Check the tank earthing carefully too.

Sender disconnected= "O" on the gauge, no light on.
Shorting each wire to ground should give you "full" on the gauge, and the light on...

One last Q. Is it a 4x4, and are there any dents in the tank?
