(Home) No heating front or rear

Dave have looked on the answers site and your name & answers is always there as is whenever I have posted a Q you have given me some great answers and I thank you.

My problem????
Got no heat front or rear, and I have done absolulety EVERYTHING in the problems pages.
being a plumber I believe it may be AIR Now I know that if i backfill with mains water a central htg system i can rid of air, but hey the joints on a townace are NOT as good as central htg so I really could do with some help PLEASE!!!!!!!
I had probs with overhtg when the garage re-cored my rad....took it back cos it overheated could they have removed the thermostat???
But if they had wouldnt that just mean the water would flow more freely??????? I mean if the stat was there and would NOT open then surely I would get no heating?

But heh I'm no mech-nic so your advice would be graetfully recieved.

Cheers
By the way, thev've done a remake for the big screen of almost bloody everything in my era, even bringing back on tv the oldies.....but NO mention of HR puff n stuff

Hello Jeffers, yes I'm here.

Is there any indication that your van is overheating now? If they have removed the thermostat then yes this will cause your symptoms. The purpose of the thermostat is to restrict the flow of coolant. The Toyota thermostat has an opening diameter of 30mm and a lift of 10mm. No thermostat will cause a much bigger opening, which will not restrict the flow and allow the coolant to flow to quickly. If this happens the coolant doesn't spend long enough in the block to collect enough of the heat, and also won't spend long enough in the radiator to dissipate it either.

There are two main differences between a central heating system and the heating system in the van. Your van is a pressurised closed cooling system, and your home heating system is open and not pressurised.

Your best bet is to remove the thermostat housing and have a look. If you find there is a thermostat in there, whip it out and measure the opening aperture. If its only 25mm its not for your townace. Get a proper townace one.

Hope that helps,
