(Home) EFI Townace

Hello
i have 1988 2 litre petrol townace and am having starting problems .It starts fine in the cold mornings we are now having ,but if i leave it until later in the day when it have warmed up it needs a lot of turning over before it eventually starts .
i have replaced the fuel filter ,spark plugs ,Ht Leads and air filter. After talking to a mechanic i know ,i am wondering if it could be one of the sensors on the car telling the ECU that the temperature is cold even when its not ? is there a sensor for this funtion ?and if so where is it and can it be tested ?

Any ideas welcome
Thanks Neil

Dont know about these at all, but I do know that if you have a flooded carb engine, depress accelerator to floor, start engine, when reving up, back off gas. Opening the butterfly valves to let in air, clears intake of excess fuel. PS make sure choke is off/open/disconnected. May not apply, to efi, may or may not be, as good as a poke in the eye...

Don't know much about the EFI on import models but you should have at least one coolant temp sensor, an air temp sensor (in the air meter), and possibly a cold start injector and associated thermo-time switch. As it starts OK cold, I'd chase the cold start injector- either leaking, or being controlled by a duff thermo-time switch...

I'm guessing one of the bods here with the US manual can help you with resistance values and component locations.
