(Home) Window motor Townace

The drivers side window on my 1996 SE 2.2TD has just developed a bad habit.
-The motor is getting power but fails to lift the window. There is nasty clicking sound and the window moves a couple of centimeters then fails back.
-The only way to close it is to pull the window up by placing hand on outside/inside of door (door open - I'm no contortionist!) to assit the motor.
-However when the window is fully up the motor still whirs away. I have to cut the ignition to stop it.
The window will then fall down unassisted after a brief spell of driving.
I have yet to dismantle so I thought I'd check if anyone else has had a similar problem. The motor is clearly working so no problem there or elswhere in the electrics. The clicking sound and slipping would iimply that there is a cog somewhere slipping its hold on the mechanism. Is there anything user servicable in there or should I just be looking out for a new motor?
Thanks

Don't know but, as the motor keeps running and the window drops I would think it is the interface (cog?) between the motor and the window lift? Not had to look at a posh newer Townace one, or any Toyota for that matter, but have seen many others and they all have had nylon cogs, and have either got a bald groove in the teeth or turn on the motor shaft. Groove is easy to fix just move it on the shaft even removing and putting back the other way up, the shaft just turning in the cog may need a bit brain power to resolve!

Thanks for the ideas. I've just stripped the motor apart and found the culprit. The cog between the window lifter had the motor is infact in metal and in good condition. Its held in place at the other end of its spindle by a simple groove with a circlip. The circlip has at some point come off and the spindle as now worn a larger hole in its slot. This gives enough play for the weight of the window to force the teeth to jump. It doesn't appear to be repairable so I'm going to put out a request to anyone with a broken motor for parts..
