(Home) Load capacity on each axle and extra springs

Hello all, my townie has suffered from ever weakening rear springs which make it look overloaded when it has even moderate wieghts in the back. I want to fit those type of spring assisters that are an extra spring in the middle of the existing coil spring on the rear axle - and i wondered if anyone has done this before ?
I think the internal load capacity is about 800 kg overall, but i havent checked the plate yet as to each axle loading capacity. The townie gets used more as a van now the kids are growing up and i have removed the middle seat row, using just the fold up seats as and when i need to transport people - it has qiute a good capacity too. I need to go to Italy soon to collect 3 motorbikes and thats the reason i want the springs beefed up - if anyone who knows where to get some of these inner springs id be grateful to know where and how much - i wonder if the rear springs are the same as a spacecruiser because the companies that sell them would probably ask for a uk model to match the correct spring ? regards Jim

Jim,
I had the very same thing on my Spacecruiser. Got some suspension assisters from a caravan center, which sat inside the springs.
I would guess that Spacecruiser would be the model to match to, note however that in 1992 I still had to wait a month for them.
Any thoughts on re-tempering?

Why not just throw a pair of Grayston donuts on?
