(Home) Strange noise during low revs

I have read through the AceAnswers, but cannot find the same description of noises as the noise I have. People have mentioned noises like milk bottles rattling or a spray can being shaken, etc, but my noise seems to be more like a low-flying helicopter. All runs well, oil and water OK, just a bad, worrying noise. It seems to make this noise when in slow moving traffic and when stopping, but when driving faster, and through gear changes, it seems to go away. I would like to know any clues you lovely people may have as to what could be causing it, so that I don't get ripped off when I take it into the garage. Many, many thanks. Jo

Exhaust manifold leak? Loose/ worn belt? Noisy bearing in one of the idler pulleys?
Has the transmission fluid (auto) been changed recently?

Does it do it when the vehicle is stationary and revved...or only on the move?...wonder about exhaust or intake noise....

I have a funny feeling, after reading the responses, that it might be the exhaust (manifold), after all. A year ago, a woman went up my rear end and the garage had to put a new exhaust on. The noise was similar to what I have now. I know the belts are OK. The Cam Belt is only 2 years old.

Thanks for your speedy replies. I still hava a guarantee on the work so will sort it soon. Thanks again. Jo
