(Home) Oil leak

1985 LH series diesel 2 litre

Just replaced cam belt and new oil seals on cam and crankshaft, in an attempt to stop oil leak. Still leaking from somewhere near the alternator - any ideas please? Can the sump gasket be replaced without taking out the engine?

Does this vehicle series have a vacuum pump mounted between the alternator drive pulley and the alternator itself? If the engine is a 2C type, there is an oil feed to and from this pump and a check on this small bore pipework might be helpful.
Again, if it is a 2C engine, I believe that the sump can be removed in situ with the removal of certain crossmembers but, others might like to advise further. There is no gasket as such. The seal is made with Toyota's tube of seal packing, part No 08826-00080, or equivalent.

Many thanks for your time, John - Will investigate.

Further to the above. On removing the alternator, I found a plug on the oil pump housing behind the alternator. This plug, about an inch in diameter, has an allen key recess and oil was leaking from the plug. Removing, cleaning and re-sealing with silicon has cured the problem. This may be helpful to others with a similar problem.
