(Home) Petrol/LPG Spacecruiser not starting

Hi guys,
I have a space cruiser model f which runs on petrol or lpg.
I have a good spark, petrol into the carb (or gas) but does the bugger want to go...? Noooo!!!!
I can see fuel through the window in the carb and it pumps through from the fuel pump no problem (the gas is getting to the carb too), if I take the carb off there's petrol in the inlet manifold but it doesn't seem to go into the barrels as the plugs are dry when removed. It's always a sod to start from cold if on petrol but usually no problems starting on gas.
I AM PULLING MY HAIR OUT!!!
P L E A S E H E L P M E - have spent hours searching the usual places, a mechanic pal spent 6 hours on it, I've spent the last bloody week trying!

Check the fuel cut off solenoid is opening, though it should run with whats in the carb. Other thought is the auto choke working?

Thanks Clive, fuel is getting to the carb. I've tried manually choking it (i wanna throttle it too!!). Don't know where the fuel cut off soleniod is but as i say the fuel gets into the carb.

The fuel cut off solenoid is a cylinder shaped electrical device that screws into the carb body, mine had a white connector near the auto choke.
If it is stuck in the off no fuel will get to the cylinders, which you say are dry. With the lid up turn ign on and the solenoid should click out, and back in as you turn off.

What's the history with this? Anyone been messing with the engine/timing? If you say that fuel is getting into the manifold but the plugs are dry then it would follow that the valve timing must be out. However you say that it runs ok on gas ??

You sure the inlet manifold is wet with petrol? It sounds more like the carb - as Clive says or fuel starvation, blocked jets etc.

it runs!!!
after recharging the battery then flattening it half a dozen times it finally runs. won't run on gas now though!
i figure it must have been the soleniod as doesn't click (bit of help/tap via hammer may have shifted it)

yes there was petrol in the manifold, why it didn't ignite is beyond me.

will try and find why the gas won't run it next..

thanks very much for all advice gentlemen. i have made a good contact in my local toyota dealers (marshals of peterborough) very helpful.

must say i'm getting right into driving it now and think i've got the bug.... which model toyota mpv is considered the best one?

Which model Toyota MPV is the best? - I would say mine, but it's horses for courses. The only way to find the best one for you is to have a look at them all. See if you can get along to one of next years ace Jams and have a look at a selection close up.
