Farook,
I would syphon as much fuel as possible out of the tank, then remove the tank, I think this is illegal so don't get caught. Remove the sender from the tank and give it a good clean out.
When you say cuts out, is that instant or does it grind to a halt? Instant I would say is more likely to be the fuel cut off solenoid, a slow death would be fuel starvation and/or air in the system.

Below the fuel filter there is a joint between rigid pipe and the flexible hose that goes up an into the fuel filter. This is about the lowest point in the system.

I emptied mine from that point, but using a portable suction gadget lent to me by a diesel specialist. I did it in his car park. It has a manual pump which reduce the pressure inside a see-through plastic tank which holds about 10 litres. Very simple to use.

The last couple of litres came through with a lot of bubbles, as if it was draining slowly down the side of the tank, or baffles or whatever there may be inside. Eventually I poured some clean fuel into the tank and was able to see that sucked straight out.

Check the bottom of the tank for a drain plug. Certainly my 1991 4x4 had one, but I believe all do...
