(Home) Voltage regulator

I understand that, on the Townace, the voltage regulator can be either internal or external(to the alternator). If the regulator is external, could someone kindly advise where it is mounted? Is it in the left door pillar or, possibly behind the glovebox or,somewhere else on the vehicle (1990/1 Masterace).
If the regulator is internal, is there some feature or, possibly a code number, on the outside of the alternator which indicates as such or, any other pointer ie, number of wires, connections etc?
Any advice would be much appreciated

Not 100% John, but I think its diesels with the external reg only. That is, the more modern "internally fanned" alternators. I think it's to do with the size/ current output, although the proximity of the exhaust manifold might be an issue too.

But it's location is easier. Behind the glovebox, yes.
