(Home) Cam/timing belt

Hi all

We haven't changed our belt yet and have been given a quote of £350. Is this about right? They said it was around £45 for belt and £70 for labour {3 hrs labour}. We live in Harrow, Middlesex, does anyone know where we can get a new one and have it fitted too. Or if anyone fancies travelling over to us {I read some of you fit them yourselves}, being a bit cheeky I make a good cup of tea!

Best wishes.

A bit confusing Corinne. Is the vehicle a Townace?Has the mechanic/garage fitted a Townace cambelt before? Is the labour charge really only £70 or, did you miss a 2 from the front of that figure? If it is only £70 for labour, it is very cheap because this job takes quite few hours. The belt price is about right but, they can be bought cheaper from an aftermarket supplier. What makes up the rest of the £350? A retail garage, with normal overheads, would be quoting £200/300 for this job so, your £350 is not too bad but,in my opinion, at the high end. If it's a freelance mechanic who is quoting, and he/she has done the job before, get them in quick and get that kettle on.

Hi

I have just had the cam belt replaced on a 1991 Townace 2.0TD by a local garage (oxfordshire) the belt was £24 plus VAT and labour around £110 plus VAT.

Hi,I've just bought a 91 Townace and want to get the timing belt changed as I don't know when t was last done. I think I need the engne number to get the right part but I can't find it.It isn't on the reg.doc.The plate in front of the drivers seat says the engine is a 2CT.Is this enough to get the right part?Theres also a label on the valve cover, but all the writing on it has faded. The engine is a 2litre TD.

yes, that the engine is a 2ct should be enough for your local toyota dealer but, the 2ct engine was fitted to a number of models,ie, camry, picnic etc and, though unlikely, there could be some differences.
for the townace between 1988/1992 you want belt part no 13568-64011
