Hiace Super Custom Limited 2.4 TD(2L-TE engine)1992
Probably Viscous fan is faulty.
Recently changed a cracked head ,prob the main cause of overheating, but also changed the viscous fan coupling as old unit was also faulty.
Best way to check if fan is faulty is to get engine Hot(take it for a drive) Then when you switch of ignition ,the fan should stop,if working correctly, within 1/2 revs. If it continues spinning...the fan is faulty..
No one on this site has mentioned this fact, and suggest replacing costly rads etc.
Viscous fan can probably be repaired by refilling with silicon fluid of the correct viscosity but its probably easier and more cost effective to replace with a new unit ( i paid 200 euros for the coupling as i was in Spain at the time)

Well all i can Rob is "yes".It's taken me a long time to work out that that the viscous coupling was also the problem with my 1983 torago. After cleaning out the radiator cores, new thermostat, electric fans that on a 30C+ day,had to run all the time to keep the motor from overheating. After installing a new viscous drive all is running well on a hot day with the air-con on.The problem is it's very hard to know when the viscous coupling is not working. My hint is that that when the motor is started, hot or cold you should hear the fan roar, and if the motor is cold, the sound will quiten down in about 10 seconds. If you can't hear this fan sound, your coupling may not be working properly.Hearing this sound when the motor is at operating temperature is a sign that the coupling is O'K.My hearing is not so great and I can hear this sound,so it's not hard to make out.
