it's been a yr that i own a townace......and overdrive is almost always turned on for smooth driving unless the journey is uphill that it's been turned off.....

just two weeks ago, experienced the unusual wherein the overdrive is turned on but the car is only locked to the 3rd gear.....what's causing this problem? pls advise....
