(Home) 2c engine swap

My engine needs an overhaul because of loss of power and a lot of blowby gas. The engine has a vacuum pump on top and I heard that it's Korean made. My friend told me that it's not durable and it's better to swap a 2CT engine from Japan than to rebuild it.

My question is, how durable is the 2CT? I'm planning to swap a 2L or 2LT instead. What do you think is the best option; rebuild the 2C or swap with 2CT or swap with 2L(T).

Vacuum pump on top only means that the engine is late production- post '93 or so, can't quite recall.

there were various other mods done at around the same time, I believe, and I'd say that the later engine was a better bet.

Thanks David for the reply.

So you mean that I should go with the 2CT?

How long usually is the engine life of the 2CT before another rebuild?

How durable? Hmm, depends on so many things. Servicing, air and oil quality, driving regieme.

You should certainly get 125-150 k miles out of a 2C bottom end tho...

The Hilux Surf guys have similar problem to these.

A diesel mech freind of mine suggested a swap to the 1KTZ or something like that - the later 3.0litre TD motor from the Hilux Surfs.
It has a much better rep, and my mate said it will fit.

Having said that, I don't know of anyone who has done it, and in my experience an engine swap rarely works well. There are some exceptions of course but I haven't met many.

Dave.
