(Home) Aircon query

Does anyone know if the twin aircon in a T/ace is two separate systems or one system with 2 sets of controls?I ask because the rear system seems to work ok,while at the front the light comes on but it doesn't seem to cool down. Also, the large pulley nearest the door doesn't have a belt on it.Theres an answer on AA that this runs the a/c compressor 'so it's optional',but isn't the compressor needed to make the aircon work? As you may have guessed, this is my first car with a/c,and I haven't got a clue about it!!

One system, with a solenoid valve or two passing the gas through the requisite bits.

But there's a better chance of the system working with a drive belt hooked up to the compressor, yes...

Martin,
If you have no belt then you have no A/C.
The rear does have it's own set of controls but runs off the same compressor.
To replace the belt you will need to remove all the others, which involves removing the floor pan.
All covered in detail on ace Answers.
Note however, that if the A/C has not been used for some time the seals within the system may have shrunk and need replacing.
