(Home) Diesel leak

Hi Everybody
I have a diesel leak on my 1993 royal lounge which appears to be coming from somewhere near the offside front wheel It leaks intermitently and sometimes appears worse when I am moving especialy when I am reversing off my drive. The pattern of where I have been is evident. Is there a particular weak spot or seal leak on the system that is known to Townie owners. Any help greatly appreciated Thanks

Joyce, you do mean the offside, ie right/front from drivers seat? This is an area where there are no fuel lines or connections. However, the fuel pump, pipework, filter etc, are located at the nearside front and this area is where a diesel leak is likely to be. Are you sure it is diesel and, have you checked the brake fluid reservoir and/or brake pipework at the offside front wheel? Of course, with the complexity of pipework and chassis members etc, a diesel leak could be running over to this side of the vehicle but, it needs someone to get underneath to check and, also, a thorough check, over the engine compartment with the passenger seat/floor pan lifted.

"worse when I am moving" - it might be power steering fluid from the bearing in the front of the pump (under the driver's seat). The bearing and seal appeared to fail fairly rapidly on mine, during the course of a few weeks. If it is, expect a hissing sound when using the steering to be audible at low speed, from air sucked in I think. This is not as critical as brakes. Worst case the steering gets VERY heavy. Lost fluid is easy to top up but the permanent remedy is to replace the pump - or rebuild it if you're not paying anyone's time.

Do let us know the outcome.
