(Home) Cylinder head

Best wished for the New Year everyone!.....Had a lovely Boxing Day present....Overheated my Townie!

I've taken the head off and it's cracked between No1 valve seats. I couldn't see anywhere on the gasket showing signs of where it may have blown. Anybody had experience of this? Would this crack cause plenty of bubbles out through the pressure cap housing (cap removed)? - Couple of blokes at work reckon they know of peugeots with similar cracks and they'll run ok like that??

Next thing is....Does anyone have a head waiting for a good home, or know where's the best place to get one?

Thanks in advance,

Stewart

The crack is the problem- straight into the water jacket. I'd guess the cracks your mates mention are around the prechambers tho.

That's a knackered head then isn't it!! Them mates were quite positive that it was across the valves, like mine, but I must admit, That's the first time I've ever heard of anyone getting away with a problem as serious as that.

Do you have any suggestions David on where I could source a new/reconditioned head?

Did you overhaul the top end while the head was off?
And have you checked for a spark when it's missing?

most be a common fault on space cruiser mine does it every time it is due an oil change
change oil and add valve clener to oil and mine runs fine again

I recently put a re-con head on and had real problems with a place called Parts Plaza in London. They sent me a head by post (After I sent the money) and the head was almost as bad as the one I had (melted head by the valve). They did refund my money after a lot of hassle.

I went to UK cylinder heads in the end (Cornwall) and I will be honest with you, it was like having a new head.

I collected mine (as once bitten twice shy) but we treated it as a day out.

You have to part ex your old head and the cam (Well I did) otherwise it is more expensive. They have a web site http://www.ukcylinderheads.co.uk/

Hope this helps. I did the head change and everything myself and it is going great.

Good luck.
