(Home) turbo lights

I've looked at another townace ('f' reg...mines 'G')that was advertised in a local paper with a view of swapping the engine, making a goodun out of the two. I noticed that the green turbo light did not come on until about 3000rpm when it was revved from idle. When I drove it, it came on sooner, but around 2000rpm.

The owner also said that the orange light comes on when he's driving down the motorway.....That's bad news isn't it?

Could the problem be just Vac pipe connections or something, or does that orange light mean something more terminal?

orange light means the turbo is overboosting ( too much pressure for its own good) usually a stuck waste gate linkage

Yup, as jim says orange light = overboost. If you take the small cover behind the driver's seat off and look down, you should see a 6" or so hose wrapping round the front of the turbo to the actuator. You could have a leak there (easy) a duff actuator (still pretty easy, but you'll need a replacement) or a seized wastegate...
