(Home) speedo conversion

I'm trying to find a phone number for euro-spec or anybody else that does the conversion face plates. Euro specs number supplied on the Ace site seems to be dead. Are BBC spares one any good.If this question has been answered sorry!
My original stick on face converion does not seem to satify the MOT centre after six years of doing so.

That's a little odd Jeff. I've never used one. Mine only reads in km/h and I've never had a problem despite using different MOT testing centres. In fact I wasn't aware it is a testable item. So what was their reasoning for their dissatisfaction? Is it worth contesting their decision or taking elsewhere?

Hi Ian, yeah in N.Ireland we have only a few big Government test centres , and they have always looked at the speedo but never failed it because of this.I have MPH stickers on every so many miles. the guy doing test said I would have to be able to see the speedo {stickers} at night, I dont know if it is testable I just took it for granted it was and as they always look at it. I didnt want to argue with him in case he took the humpy head and found a lot more petty things to fail it on.I must enquire about it .

Sorry Jeff, I didn't realise you lived over the water. I'm well aware of the stricter test in N. Ireland. In which case if you want a professional jobbie I see that BBCSpares do one for £20.

Yes, I've heard this of recent times- more specifically wrt grey import motorcycles. Used to get away with a sticker over the glass, not any more...

Jeff, if you're stuck locally, try Grahams in Saintfield or Gibson's in Banbridge. Might just have' em in stock...

I really can't see thee logic of this ... the govt want bananas in kilos and milk in litres but they don't like kph??!!
I asked my pet transport agency man (we have the regional office here) to look up the stiffer regs in N.I.
He says that if you leave off your little stickers for the mot and put them back after, thus leaving the calibration in kph and fully lit etc. the test centre cannot fail it !
That doesn't mean to say that some irish mechanic can't tell you otherwise and cause a problem!

Hi Guys ,
Thanks for info , went to test center today and asked supervisor about my problem, he says it depends on who you get but he thought that the guy was correct BUT he was going to go and read the N.I regs and would give me a ring. Will let you know the outcome.
I also informed him that the orginal test guy had told me I could put a small light on dash to light my markings up , but as i told supervisor this would just reflect in your face{a bit dangerous}, it was then he decided to read regs. Cheers

Which test centre, Jeff?- Ards?

- (#15232) david miller, 4 Feb 05 09:46

No David, Belfast. The supervisor rang me back to tell me he read regs and they say speedo has to be visible from all angles[thats probably for motorbikes] , also must read kph to mph acurately and must visible at all times but does not have to be illuminated. When asked should use the white sticker version [mine are orange] he said i could try it .
Great info ehh!
David what do you use.Are you in N.I

- (#15232) jeff gilmore, 4 Feb 05 12:15

Yup, I'm in Ards (worst test centre, BTW. Be grateful you went to Boucher, at least they talk to you...). I don't have a townie any more, but the one I had had a proper conversion fascia. The car came through Lawrence Gibson which is why I mentioned them...
