What year is it? On most it's easiest to remove the access panel inside the car in the footwell

Mine is late '91. I find that access panel awkward and prefer to pull the headlight forwards. You must remove the central light unit first - 3 screws. But there are a variety of arrangements of all these lights depending on your model/year. Let us know what you find.

And if you have climate control you can't see let alone get to the near side one!
I prefer to pull the head lights, I did use the plates on my Spacecruiser but always pulled a muscle or two along with some blood letting!

Have to agree with Clive on this one. Have changed both bulbs on my 1990 townie - O/side took about 20 mins by removing the panel inside,by pedals - N/side took about an hour and half, cost me three knuckles, two sessions of massage from the better half to put my back back in place (not complaining on that one) and 5 quid in the swear box. You will certainly find it easier to remove the headlight to change the N/side bulb, I certainly will in future.

What is it that won't move? - the sidelight unit?
If so, you just have to use ''increasing amounts of violence'' (quote from here)and try to lever it FORWARDS. The bottom lug clip (what the plastic lug fits into) becomes rusty with time and sticks a bit. The unit will move forward eventually just be careful with the paintwork. I'm a newbie and I found the ''front entry'' much better.
