(Home) Vacuum pipes muddled

Hi Everyone
Glad the BOK is back had the message from Clive.
I've been doing some work on my Townie (Royale Lounge)2C-T and I think i.ve messed up the vaccuum pipes.
Looked at the pictures but not to good to follow as mine seem slightly different.
I have totally removed the EGR and all the pipework, had the fuel pump overhauled, renewed the turbo (second hand £100.00+postage), connected all pipes up
but brakes not up to scratch, idle-up not working otherwise all seems OK.
Changed pipework around now idle-up slightly raises revs but the turbo lights come on when ign is switched on, but don't light up when travelling.
Performance seems to very good with approx 30mpg after its first long run since the work has been carried out (250 miles).
I am concerned about the brakes and turbo lights though, so I could do with some advise if someone can send me some photos or other pictures.

Regards
René

As a start I suggest you you all all the joints for a tight fit. I think you may have a leak somewhere that is losing the vacuum, hope you do not need to revisit the alternator!
Then study the vac pipe route on Ace Answers - yours may not be the same route but I'll bet you have the same components juggled around.

Hi.Clive
can't understand why the turbo lights don't come on when driving

Turbo lights come on when you first turn the ign key?
If yes then check the vacuum connections to the two valves next to the air filter.

Not to be pedantic, but just so that there's no confusion, there's a PRESSURE feed for the turbo lights. Hose comes from inlet manifold ( just under the big black hose from the aircleaner) to a Tee, where one leg goes to the top of the injection pump, the other goes to the two pressure switches in front of the aircleaner (another Tee links them...)

There should be no connection between pressure and vacuum circuits, and nothing left disconnected either.

Thanks David,
Sorry Rene,

in order to keep things simple I think I've made things complicated?

Follow Davids advice and let us know how you get on.

well clive and dave,
between you both i seem to have solved the plumbing on the vacuum side.
i didn't know that the turbo lights came on through pressure.
drove it out this afternoon and done about 60+ miles and all seems to be ok. gear changing seems to be running smoother, but it seems the turbo light comes on early (i don't know) about 1700rpm, if i remember the light used to come on at about 2200rpm.

i must thank you 2 gents for all the help you've given me, it's nice to know that there are some good people out there and i won't be afraid to ask anything i have always said you are never to old to learn and if you don't you won't get anything.

thanks once again and hope to see you down at brean on one of the days.

i will take some photos and perhaps they can be put on the site for someone else.

regards,

rené.
