(Home) alternator belt alignment

I have a 1989 2wd townace recently bought.
Just changed belts after sqeaking got worse, but the alternater belt pulley is roughly 10mm towards the rear out of line with the fan / crankshaft pulley. It is the single belt type any ideas?

check that the crank pulley hasn't come loose. There's no easy way for the alt. pulley to shift short of the alternator itself moving or perhaps the vacuum pump's innards collapsing.

Thanks David, but the crank pulley and the fan pulley is in line with each other ,the prob I think is the alt pulley,
is it poss the wrong alt, or poss the wrong pulley on it?

If it's just happened that's unlikely, but if it's been like that since you got the bus, I'd guess someone has put a twin-belt alternator on with a single pulley on it.

Just had another look at it.The crank pulley has space for another belt! The fan pulley has a paint mark like a breakers mark (single belt type) the head also has a paint/ breakers mark on it. The alt pulley is out of line and is a single belt type. Any good ideas?

No good ideas, but you've got an interesting selection of non-matching bits there...
The pulley setup changed in 08/90 so it looks like the engine has been rebuilt with some later parts.

You'll need to either fabricate spacers or replace parts methinks.
