Could be one of a number of things Chris. Worn steering rack components, worn or broken engine mounts, worn suspension joints, wheelbearings ....

As Ian says. I'd check the propshaft U/Js first, then the engine mounts, and possibly give the tranny fluid a change...

Thanks David & Ian,put it up on the ramps and found a shot u.j.What is the best way forward now as I think a repair will mean the joint will have to be 'peened'?.Would it be cheaper to buy a replacement (if these are readily available)? Also ,do you think I may aswell change the tranny fluid while the shaft is off by draining it this way?

- (#127) chris hunnam, 14 Mar 05 14:47

You'll not drain much fluid from the tailshaft... But a fluid change is always a good idea, yes.

I'm not sure what parts are available for the driveshafts. Best check with your local factors to see if bits are available or whether he can recommend a rebuilder locally.
(there used to be a number of firms advertising in the E&M and the like)

all sorted.propshaft recon needed.it cost £65+vat,but had both ends so it was £150ish at finish.still, cheaper than tranny fault finding!cheers. david, you said i should change tranny oil.there different ways suggested on ace answers but which would suggest is the best?

Drain through drain bung, refill through dipstick tube. Repeat, if the old fluid looked manky...
