(Home) tps & boost limit adjustmnent

Hi everyone!

Read somewhere about the TPS shutting off the compressor when accelerating, Is that only for automatics? Coz mine is a manual. Whats a TPS anyway? Also my airconditioning's idle up doesnt work, is that how the TPS works? Lastly can anyone please help me about the proper adjustment of the boost limit. Someone told me to tighten it (clockwise) to get the most boost but Im afraid it might damage the engine. Its been a little off the mark lately. Thanks in advance.

If you've got one, the TPS is a black plastic unit on top of the diesel pump, with a cable attached.

But it's nothing to do with idle-up. That uses a diaphragm assy on the side of the pump, actuated by a solenoid valve. Both manual and a/c linked idle-up are powered through the heater fan switch, so the fan must be running. Check for disconnected or blocked vacuum hoses.

I've no idea what you mean by boost limit. The maximum boost is set at the wastegate but is non-adjustable. Are you fiddling with one of the screws on the pump perhaps? I wouldn't if I wasn't sure of their function.

Any chance you problems are linked and someone has been screwing around with the vacuum hoses- connecting a vacuum hose to the enrichment compensator on top of the pump will damn-near kill boost and power.
Manifold pressure goes only to the on-boost enrichment device and the pressure switched in front of the airfilter. It goes nowhere else.

i am getting desperate to find the problem with my gear box, i have a 1988 townace turbo deisel auto 2litre, upto now i have spent £1500 plus trying to get the van up and running smooth, byreplacing engine and gear box with low milage, engine seems sound but the gear box keeps changing gear for noappernt reason, i would like to know if anyone knows a good reliable garage in the n/wales area, i live in buckley which isideal for any location around cheshire and lancashire i did see a garage that someone recomended in the widness area but i cant find it now.or if any of you boffings out there willing to give it a test drive and try and pin point the fault, i will pay for the privilage, i just need someone to say thats the problem then i can commit to getting it done, thanks for your time. a desperate man on the edge

gary, was the gearchange ok before they renewed the units, because it might be reasonable to assume they have incorrectly routed either the kickdown cable or the main change cable that goes to your auto gearlever unit in the centre console, it could be just between drive and 2nd, for example.
the other thing to check is the integrity of the wires that feed the small overdrive button on your gear change t bar, if they have a bad contact it will do just what you describe - try these then come back to us

I'm sorry what I meant by boost limit is the thing on top of the fuel pump that provides the boost for the turbo. Is there anything I should know before I try to adjust it? Thanks!
