Andy

Powerflow don't do downpipes despite their claim to supply complete systems. When I wrote to them last year about this they said they would address this in their marketing material. Obviously they haven't bothered to follow up with this promise.

My local agent did provide a stainless downpipe for £50 using the same grade steel as Powerflow but would only give me a 2 year warranty on it, not the lifetime one.

I had an exhaust upto the flexi joint fitted by Longlife exhausts www.exhausts.co.uk , they said the down pipe and flexi joint were sound and did not need replacing yet, but they could if I wanted to for £299. The rest of the exhaust was £299, so to lessen the blow (sorry for the pun!) I opted to just have the bit I needed and come back as and when.
The good bit is it is for life no yearly visits required, fit and forget as their advert says, sadly only outlets in Bristol, Cardiff, London (SW5), Birmingham and Plymouth at the moment

Eh? £299 for a downpipe and flexi joint and another £299 for mid section and back box? That's a bit steep. Or am I reading that wrong?

The price is wrong! Both bits £199 each - repetative bad finger day! Remember this is a fit and forget, can be passed to new owners and is cheaper than the Toyota mild steel one.

Remember, all, that powerflow is a franchise, and each supplier will do things his own way. My local chap was more than happy to do the front and midpipe, no hassles.
I'll not second guess another company's business practice, but I reckon the reason Powerflow won't do frontpipes is that they are aimed at the "petrolhead" types. Now, they drive petrol cars, and there are two issues that need considering. Cat converters and temperature. A frontpipe with no cat is illegal on most cars, and petrol-engine downpipes run much hotter than diesels, shortening their lifetime.
Big business doesn't want to either fall out with the Law nor do they want too many warranty claims...

Clive - that price is more like it. I think I paid £320 for a Powerflow up to and including the flexijoint, then £50 for the downpipe. About the same as yours in total. The annual inspection has its benefits - they replaced a joint and a hanger off their own volition at the last inspection.

David - totally agree. I think that Powerflow is aimed more at the performance market, which means petrol of course. And of course the build quality and after care is down to the franchise. The only common thing really is the branding and grade of steel used.

Are you sure it was www.exhausts.co.uk as that doesn't seem to lead to a legitmate looking website.
