(Home) exhaust gaskets

Hi all

I have a 1991 Townace 2.0TD 2WD. I am looking for the gaskets for the front exhaust. Just spent an hour or so looking at exhaust catalogues but no Townace. Anybody any idea which gaskets I need and where to get them? A number of exhausts in the catalogue at least looked similar (Hi-Ace etc), is the exhaust used on this Townace also used on other Toyota's? If so which ones? Any advice appreciated.

you will probably have to go to the toyota dealer for these, unless a factor can cross ref the part numbers.
ex manifold gasket 17173-64050
turbo outlet 17279-11010
down pipe to turbo 90917-06012

The gaskets are the same as used on the Spacecruiser exhaust, a think compression use once type. I sure they (you need 3 on a Spacecruiser) where less that a £1 each direct from Toyota. I had one ready for a recent rear section replacement, the joint would have been filled with joint cement otherwise!

To clarify I used a 17173-64050 on the joint behind the flexi pipe.
Not looked at the turbo joints so don't know what they are like.

Downpipe to turbo is a similar metal compression type. I found that using the old gasket plus an exhaust gasket paste did the job.

Hi

thanks for all the inofmation, got the gaskets from BBC spares in the end. I might need a replacement front pipe, anyone knows if a front pipe from another Toyota van would fit, in the catalogues I looked at yesterday there were many that looked similar?

Find a supplier that will make one up for you. I had a stainless one made and fitted for £50.

Hi

The front exhaust was coming apart on the joint with the flexi pipe. All welded back together now but do not know how long it will last. Apart from getting a new front exhaust made up/BBC any other suggestions where to get a new one in case it does not last long?

If you plan to keep the vehicle a long time then invest in a stainless exhaust. Full system will cost in the region of £300 - 400. Powerflow or an outfit in the Southwest as said by Clive in another thread or similar.

Otherwise just look around and see if you can find an exhaust outlet that will make you one up from mild steel. You could also try a decent motor factors and see if they can source a pattern replacement.

hi can anyone tell me how to get the manifold out for repairs on studs and gaskets or if it can be done without removing the whole thing ive read all of the posts on this subject but it doesnt appear to be very clear for the spacey. any help would be great

Ron,
You should have started a new thread as this could have got lost tagged onto Townace diesel exhaust problem.
The spacecruiser inlet and exhaust manifold are joined, under the carb. So you best remove both.
Once the carb, heat shield and vac pipes are out of the way there is room the get both off. If you separate them you will need new gaskets for the heat transfer joint as it is called.
