(Home) breaking system

I'm hearing noise (like metal against metal sound)at my left side wheels everytime I step on my breaks. Do you think this is normal or may breaks starting to breakdown? What type of disk break should I use for replacement?

My townace is automatic and thats why i'm very dependent on my breaks to decelerate... the grinding sound really bothers me... I'd better get a mechanic to check it out.... thanks.

Jeffrey,
As Neil says - the front pads have a wear alarm. Its a bit of metal that when the pad gets thin enough it touches and therefore makes a screeching/grinding noise.
If it is not that perhaps a bit of grit has got lodged, either way as you say get them looked at.
If you do not know what you are doing don't touch the brakes your life may depend on them!

I had this problem and i just changed the brake pads which stopped the squealing and rattling. The only problem i had was that the suppliers didnt give me any clips! Ahh Nightmare

just want to update you guys... i already have change the break pads in front ant the break shoe at the back wheels. I got rid of the noice which is really the wear alarm scrapping my rotor. I even have my hand break (park break) fix with the repair of my break shoes.

Thanks guys for the help. =)
