I installed a CD player on my townace. I know its normal that the CD skips when I hit a good bump or the van shakes... How can I minimize it? Thanks.

If the player is firmly mounted to the dash, is the player new or old? If old, it might need the lens cleaned, or might just be reaching the end of it's life. If it's new I'd take it back...

I have the same problem but not with all CDs.
I've remounted the unit several times making sure it is held firmly in place. Given up now if a CD jumps I just don't use that one.
As an aside the cheap CDs I use for MP3 work the best. They are a wafer thin I don't know if that has anything to do with it?

just a thought. couple of replies mention securing unit, i'm looking at this the other way. if the unit is tight into dash it will move as suddenly and as far as dash when you hit a bump. if the unit could be mounted on small rubber bushes, with a bit of movement, these would shield unit from sudden harsh shocks.

Car and portable CD players are supposed to have in-built 'cushioning' or anti-skip devices to prevent this sort of thing happening. Instructions usually tell you to mount it securely.

I found out to my cost that cheaper units (sub £200) have very little anti skip usually only one or two seconds where as my new sony has 10 seconds so do not get any skipping...

Are you sure its skipping as i find with mine if its moist inside the van then it skips or rather becomes corrupt sounding thats with mp3/cd players and friends of mine have said they get similar problems with theres.
Just wondered if this might be the problem sorry for the lame comment if its not.

actually, i'm using a CD/Radio player with out Anti-Skip... I'm planning to buy a new one by December with Anti-Skip... I already place cushion under and above the radio and its properly placed in the dashboard... The problem is that when i hit the bump the dashboard also rattles... i guess there no solution for that.
