(Home) Heater fan resistors value

Liteace Commercial, 2WD, 2C Diesel, 1989.

The first step of my heater does'nt work, so i located the resistors and took the unit out.

What are the values of the resistors? The one used for the 2nd step is around 1 Ohm. Anybody knows the value for the first step?

Maybe with a bit of DIY i can make it work with resistors from an electronic parts shop.
I only need the resistance value and how much power (Watt) the resistors have to be.

Anybody ideas?

A couple of ohms, probably. You'd need a pretty high-power resistor tho, the fan takes perhaps 15A at full speed. You might try using a lightbulb as a ballast resistor instead- cheaper and easier to get. Try a 21W, and if that doesn't get the fan turning, a headlight bulb...

There's no spec in the manual, BTW, it only specifies continuity from one end of the resistor chain to the other.

Yess, getting my air system light up and driving a real Light-Ace :D:D:D !! But it is a try.

I will use power resistors, they are white and can have 10W. One step smaller is 5 Watt and i think that is not enough.

Thinking of using a 15 Watt potentiometer of 1.2 Ohm...then it is full adjustable...

Think you'll need a higher wattage than that. The originals aren't fored-air cooled for nothing...

Ok, here is usefull information :

I drive a 2.0 Diesel Liteace CM36, Left hand drive, sold here (The Netherlands)from 1987-1992. Modelcode CM36L-MRSBEW

Try to locate the resistor but was not behind the glovebox. Finally found it on the LEFT side of the big airbox behind the radio. Almost between the headlights.

It is a black plastic base with two wire-resistors and a three-pin connection. (So it is used only for step 1 and 2 of the blower. Step 3 is a direct 12 volt on the blower.) It is mounted only with one screw.

Used Toyota EPC program to get the part number (87138-95707) and ordered the part by a local Toyota dealer.
The man behind the desk said this number is replaced by 87138-27020. Got it the day after and the wire-resistors are replaced now by a big white block. It looks a bit higher.

Mounted without a problem. Only the wiringplug is turned 180 degrees now but fits and works perfectly.

Resistance is about 0,7 (2nd step) and 1,0 Ohm (1st step).

I hope i can help other people with this info.

Greetings from the Netherlands !!
