(Home) EGR blanking plate

I have now purchased a 1991 Townace diesel/auto that seems to have most of the things done to it that appear to go wrong, the bloke has only updated to a late Previa to save his wife's face by not having to drive to school in an H plated MPV.

Discussing this on my home forum I got this advice

"Also, a small, but significant tip with all imported 4 x 4s, if it has an overdrive button, leave it on constantly and get yourself a EGR Blanking plate fitted. Cost of plate about £5 and takes about 5 minutes to fit. Will cut your emmissions and give you a little more MPG and make your accelerator a little more responsive. "

Does anyone have any comments on this practice please?

Yep, it's as your quote says. Check the archives, there is a fair amount of discussion about it there. Don't know where the £5 blanking plate comes from, you have to make your own. Takes longer than 5 minutes though as you need to remove the whole gubbins if fitting a blanking plate. There's a quicker way by blocking the vac tube. Read the archives to reveal all.
