Your dealer? It's an internal part in the tranny, 85420-28020. No idea how much it'll cost so I'd make damn sure of a diagnosis before ordering...

None other than checking for 12v at the solenoid. If there's no 12v when the button is out, then go back to the relay (it's under/ in front of the gear lever)

i had the smae probelme--but it wasn't the solenoid it was the engine temp relay switch.

if it is the same as the gas us van you can test the od soleniod by removing the wire to the relay switch on the engine. this is on the right hand side of the motor right under the temperature guage sender. what this relay switch does is not let the transmission shift into 4th until the engine is at temperature. it has a roundish plug unlike the temp sender's smaller square plug. disconnect the wire from the relay switch.

now turn the ignition on, and click the overdrive button on the shift handle. listen closely--if you can hear a click coming from the transmission, this is your solenoid working--that would mean it is the temp relay switch that has bit it.

the temp relay switch on the motor is a weak part and i'll bet it is the culprit. and its cheaper and easier to replace.

The diesel doesn't have a thermal lockout. Overdrive on a stone-cold engine, emmissions who cares!
