(Home) universal joint rubber boot

Hi
I have a townace 4x4 and need to replace the front rubber boot on the universal joint I can't find any thing on this or any other site Re the replacement of same, I have removed the disc split the bottom wish bone and track rod but I am still unable to remove the drive shaft or the uj from it's socket, any help with this would be much appreciated as I am taking the kids to Italy in it on the 5th of May and I have to MOT it first and I am running out of time fast.

Thanks Wyatt

You'll need to pull the cover off the locking hub (six bolts), then the bolt in the middle that retains the driveshaft...

Thanks David but I have done that it's the only way to get the disc off, do I need to remove the rubber boot from the other end of the drive shaft and take the lot out or dose the UJ come out of the socket at the disc end of the shaft?

Thanks again Wyatt

P.S not sure if this is how to reply.

Good point.
With the bolt out, the stub will pull straight out of the hub (assuming you have clearance), at the inside end it'll fall apart (other than the rust-hold) once you remove the six fasteners holding the inner CV onto the diff flange.

A thought though. The stub axle runs in brass bushes within the front axle. If there's much wear in this region there might be a bit of a shoulder catching it, and it might take a bit of a wriggle to free it up...

Hi David Thanks for all your help, got the job done now it was a bit of a pig to do but I got there in the end, it took less time to take the engine out and put it back.
Tanks again Wyatt
