(Home) oil filter

This one doesn't seem to be in the archives.

My townie seems to be one of the very last to be given the 2CT 2 litre engine. When I got it last autumn I took it into National for their cheapy oil and filter change. As the Townace wasn't in their books I quoted the various different brands and models in the archive until they got a match. When they took the old filter off, however, they found that it was different. No problem on the day as they got the right one delivered and I spent an extra hour or so wandering round town.

But now I need another change and National aren't even accepting bookings so I will probably do it myself. The only trouble is that I don't know which filter to get. The National sales code for the filter they fitted was WL7174 but I don't know how that matches up to anything else. Can anyone help me here.

Have a look in the "Parts" section in Ace Answers. (It's one of the green logos under the Ace Annwers heading. This will show you (among others) the Blueprint range of spares/filters etc for our type of vehicle. These are excellent prouducts at reasonable prices. There is a "link" so that you can put in your country & county, and the local stockist is shown.
The Blueprint filter which you require is part No ADT32110. Alternatively, a Mann filter, part No WP914/80 can be used.

I quoted those numbers last time (from http://www.mpvi.net/ia/ia000922.htm ) and he matched up I believe to a Fram. But when it turned out to be the wrong filter I think that we were both a little embarassed and I just let them get the correct filter without pushing as to which of us had got it wrong.

This post http://www.mpvi.net/ia/ia42bg20.htm says at the end that some Townaces have a different oil filter but doesn't say which one or how to recognise the two types without removing the filter.

My problem now is that the only reference number I have is the National part number. I have tried looking at the filter but it is rather well concealed in its little burrow and I can't see any clear identifying marks on the top of its head.

wrong how? as long as the mounting thread matches and the gasket is the same diameter, the filter can be any size you fancy.
90915-30001 is the part number for all 2c applications that i'm aware off, although it does replace 90915-03003...

Never had a problem with the Blueprint version over 50,000 miles, and I change my engine oil (and filter)every 3000 miles without fail. That's a lot of filters

Going back to your first point - one of the last 2CT models (are you even sure it's a 2CT? "concealed in its little burrow" sounds odd) - how about phoning Isle of Wight Toyota, who are helpful on imports, with the numbers off your VIN plate and they will tell you what Toyota part number the engine oil filter should be, they'll even supply one by mail order if you want.
