The alternator has just gone in my petrol Master ace surf, I've got hold of a second hand one which is identical except for the connector, the one I've taken out has a round fitting with three wires going to it whereas the replacement has a square fitting with two wires. There is no vacuum pump in either.
Any ideas why the difference and if I can get round it?

Well, a petrol engine doesn't have a vacuum pump to start with...
I'm going to say they aren't interchangeable, one is internally regulated and the other externally.

But someone might have better news...
