(Home) Bob Box Diesel tuning module

Hi there, fellow Acer's.
Has anyone fitted a Bob Box Diesel tuning module to there Ace? If so, was it easy to fit, and, did it produce good results?
Also - for those in the know - is there a cheaper or better way to achieve better pulling power and performance?
I'm thinking about the Bob Box, but want to be sure that it's the best option for my Hiace Wagon 2.4 EFI Turbo; I wouldn't want to break it!
Thanks Guys.

Don't know about tuning options, but Toyota japan do a 3ltr turbo supercustom which is allegedly very brisk on acceleration and top speed

You'll not get too much feedback here; none of the townie/ liteace diesels are electronic.

most tuning boxes however just fool the ECU's sensor inputs. You can generally get the same effect using a couple of resistors in the right place...

Re. breaking it? Always possible. Anything which increases fuel or boost will create more heat.

You got a link to this Bob device?

Here's the web link you asked or Dave. Sorry about the delay - Iv'e been away for a while. If you know what to do to achieve the same effect, then, I would be glad to know how i.e., what resistor values etc.

Hmm, only three wires. Not doing much for the best part of £300...

Well, there are a number of avenues you can go down. Tell the ECU that the fuel is hot and the air is cold and you'll get more power. that's easy to do by adding a resistor either accross or in series with the relevant sensor. Likewise if boost is electronically controlled you can reduce the signal from the boost sensor (MAP)to get more PSIs.
These Denso pumps are similar (but not identical to) the Bosch units in VW TDIs; on these you can break into the signal from the quantity adjuster (inside the pump)and tell the ECU it's injectin less fuel than it really is- google the "Evry mod". This is actually how most tuning boxes work.

Which engine have you? I've the engine manual for the 1KZ-TE which has a fair bit of info on the pump and ECU and would be electrically similar to the 2/3 L-TE. If I get a chance tomorrow I'll drag some relevant info out of it for you. It's floating around somewhere online if you fancy a 15Mb download...

Hi there Dave!
Thanks for getting back to me with the info. I have plenty of past experience in vehicle mechanics, but this is my first ever diesel and i know very little practicle knowledge about them; with regard to their setup and tuning.
Mine is the 2.4 2TL-TE (EFI Turbo engine). I do intend to retro fit a Air/water intercooler at some stage - that's providing I can find the necessary space to fit it. It's going to be like Houdini, in reverse!
Anyway, looking forward to the download.
Thanks alot, fellow Acer.

BTDT, intercooled the townie three or more years ago.

I'll grab the requisite sections of the manual and ship'em over to ya later on...
