(Home) turbodiesel engine repair

I bought an H-reg Toyota Townace 2litre turbo diesel 2 months ago. From the time I bought it, it made a disconcerting 'boing' noise on decelerating (I called it Zebedee because of this); the turbo light would go off and not come on unless I turned off and restarted the engine. It was fine for the past month then I started getting white/blue smoke coming out the exhaust when slowing to halt or reversing. I got it checked out with a person who specialises in repairing diesel engines before taking a 600mile round trip this weekend and he said it should be ok (engine and water ok but oil leak somewhere) as long as I kept eye on oil - was due to take it in today for him to look at. Went into Toyota service station in Swansea and he said same. Didn't get home though - had to be towed last 35 miles after nasty tinny, rattling noise developed at top of engine (?turbo rings loose?); have it booked in next Thurs at Toyota service station but am considering taking it back it diesel specialist who can fit me in earlier. Any ideas/advice appreciated. Robyn, Colchester

Hi Robyn
I had blue smoke pouring out of the exhaust on mine when stopped and when reversing, faulty turbo.
Bought a second hand turbo from API engines Ltd. for £129.25 all in
tel 01926 614333
It turned out to bein excellent condition.
Best of luck
