(Home) advice needed again

after a month wait ! injectors finally ready yesterday, fitted them today along with a new fuel return pipe. all drive belts are new... new fuel and oil filters..
started the old girl up and running rufffff
played about with fuel switch on back of pump and seemed to run better
looked at exhaust smoke... OOps. was filling the street up with white smoke.
maybe caused by the crap in exhaust or the last bits of water/heating fluid that was in tank. or so i thought.
maybe if i take it round the block it might clear ..
pulled away and accelerated couldnt see a thing behind me,,, oh dear blown turbo.
anyway i parked it up , left it for 5 minutes and looked underneath and oil was pouring on the floor.
(my mate was hoping up and down ) oil all over the road at his house..
had a closer look couldnt see any leeks... but down pipe and turbo flange covered in oil ..
so heres the dilema ive got
do i try and find another turbo?
do i cut my losses and scrap the thing.
and say goodbye to the £300 this has cost me, including buying it to start with??
Has anybody got a good turbo???
2-- i also noticed the temp gauge is not working , but cannot find the sensor to check... where is it????

Sensor's under the inlet manifold, between 3 and 4 as I recall.

Was the turbo sold to you as OK? Have you checked the crankcase breather pipe for blockages? Is the turbo oil return hose clean and unkinked?

If all the gaskets are OK even if the turbo *did* fail you shouldn't see oil outside the exhaust system. So I'd recommend looking closely at that turbo oil return hose and fitting. A blockage there will build up oil in the turbo causing smoke and if it was to have blown off at either end it'll leak like a sieve...

Hi Dave , you may remember this is the one i got as a non runner just over a month ago at a cost of £80, it had headgasket done and they couldnt get it running. i had all sorts of fun with glowplugs and injectors etc.. i took injectors to have new nozzles fitted, 4 weeks ago got them back yesterday..
i also spoke to the bloke i got it from. and he told me the reason the head was done was because of severe water leak and tons of white smoke..
when i had it stripped down to get injectors out, all turbo pipes were clear and c/case breather is ok.
ive seen lots of turbos blow but none with the amount of oil that is pouring out of manifold on turbo.
ive got the rac bringing to my house in kent tonight, so i dont have to go 35 miles to work on it,..
are turbos a normal problem with the 2ct's??
and do you anyone thats got one??
thanks for your help again

I've never heard of one going so catastrophically. Seals wear or get sticky, giving the same kinda smoke at idle symptoms you'd get with excessive blowby. But visible oil? nope, new to me. Is the gasket on the oil flange under the turbo new?

nope i havent touched the turbo. but from what the guy said to me today with the amount of smoke before he had head done i think turbo was gone already.
the underside of engine and gbox was smotherd in oil when i got it..
(wife keeps nagging me ..whens my car going to be done i sick of pushing the twins everywhere.. the excersise is good for you i say)...
i just looked at bills site. he has secondhand turbos for 150 . have you had any dealings with his second hand turbos??

Sorry, I thought you'd changed the turbo already. Yes, Bill's turbos are fine, they come off low- mileage imports.
