Paul. There are many suppliers of recon heads etc and a search through the archives will show some names.
On Ebay, a Bradford Co are advertising many Toyota items, including heads. Look at item No 4549767571 and this Co might be able to help.

Hi Paul.
Just put on a new head on my 2ltr Royale Lounge.
I had quotes for recon heads, so it depends wether you can do the job yourself as I did.
I had a brand new head from Dragon engineering £616 including the dreaded VAT and laped the valves in etc, and its done the job.
It depends where you live if you have to pay postage on top of that price.
It took me about a week to do in the evenings and Sat /Sun.
If you need more info drop me a mail.
Regards.

what could be the cause of having a 'dead head'?

Thanks for that, I am talking to bill @ bbc spares at the mo. £225 for second hand head! I live in the Sof France so postage will be vile but not as bad as the quote for a hed here!
my next ? is the same a jeffs. what caused it to blow? as my temp guage has never registered over the line I cant work out how it has over heated [even though I know it has boiled a bit on the way up a mountain] the guage didnt move a micron!
fan works fine. Bill says get the rad 'flow tested' any one know what that is in french :-)
keep you posted

gauge is useless. It'll only tell you the fan has come off or the engine has boiled dry. Best invest in a "Mason Mod" for the gauge.

Hi Paul,
Sorry to hear about your woes. Worth also trying Neville at Nippon Autoparts for the head(http://www.nipponautoparts.com).
French translations as follows:
pressure test (for whole system or just rad etc)= mise à l'epreuve sous pression
other basic bits
head skim = rectification de culasse
head = culasse
gasket = joint
rad cap = bouchon(du radiateur)
cooling system = circuit de refroidissement

yep seem ok - followed the russian advice for rotating the bulb + max lateral adjustment and got through the contole technique without any problem. all the paperwork is now together for the drire, just wating for th dvla to correct the export certificate (wrong engine size!) and hopefully the application is then complete - after that much finger crossing and then hopefully french plates!
