(Home) engine rebuild

i have just recently purchased a townace and am happy with it except for the engine being to smokey,(excessive blue/grey smoke engine getting tired). does anyone out there know rhe best place& a rough idea as to cost of a recon engine, or even the best place to get the rings, headset, cambelt & pulleys and anything else relevant to this job it is the 2.0 (2C)with turbo. i have tried some of the local suppliers and they say that they cant get the rings due to it being an import but can get a headset for £88+vat but nothing else. can anyone out there help. i am in skelmersdale lancashire, but dont mind travelling or paying postage in order to get it back on the road. as i said earlier i dont mind if it is a full engine or the parts for me to recon it myself. one more question is does toyota still supply the engine manual everyon seems to be mentioning or is now out of stock. thank you for any help you may be able to offer.

You sure the engine is tired? Worth doing a compression test first. The smoke could be due to pump/timing settings, injectors or something else less radical. The 2C engine manual part # RM025 is still available from Toyota for under a tenner.

yes, as ian says, do the checks first but, as a new owner you might not be aware that these engines might seem "tired", even in the best of condition. they only put out about 85/90bhp and have to pull a body weighing more than most conventional mpv's. the engine manual is a must and your local toyota dealer should be able to supply. there was a rumour, a short while ago, that they were going out of print but, so far, this does not seem to be the case. i put by a couple of spare copies a year or so ago and, if you are really stuck, i could help.
if your vehicle's mileage, and previous care (or lack of it), means another engine, there are various suppliers, ie bbc spares and, various breakers have these vehicles in stock. there is a complete engine, located in yorkshire, currently on ebay at £380 and you might like to check item no 4551587578.

Hopefully you wont need rings (compression test should tell you this) but if you do, I got Rings from Local Toyota Dealer.

I gave them my chasis number and stuff and waited a month for the rings to come. When they came they were the 4mm one's which did not fit. So I took them back and told them and then they got the 3mm one's in two days which did fit.

Also got the Big end bearings whilst I was there although this also took them two attempts.
