I guess it depends on what you mean by doesn't work. On my TownAce the switches(buttons) light up when in use and I think there's a recirculation fan and also an internal lamp. If you haven't got lights and can't hear the fan it could be an electrical problem, hopefully a fuse. Front aircon doesn't have to be on, I just checked. If electrics are ok then the most likely reason is the system is low on refrigerant. If it's never been refilled a 1991 system will be almost empty and would contain illegal refrigerant. Have it refilled, they will remove the old stuff. I had my 1990 system refilled not long after I got it 5 years ago and I had it topped up last year. Ring around
for prices as they vary. It should almost freeze your windscreen when refilled.

It does consume power and therefore increases fuel consumption. Some say by 10%. My experience is not that bad especially after disconnecting the EGR vacuum hose but that's another story ..... see the Ace archives.

Hi Just had my air con regassed and converted to R134a gas , air con works quite well in the front but seems to be cooler in the back also the coolbox does,nt seem to cool at all could this be due to insufficient gas in the system ie. weight or volume . I was told that some of the valves may be on the way out and any replacement parts are now obselete any information would be appreciated

Regards
Mal
