(Home) oil pressure warning light & sparks

I noticed what I thought was the top up the oil light coming on in my townace td1991, so I topped it up. I found it was coming on quite a lot so I was topping it up quite a bit. I was doing a 60 mile round trip to work, 5 days a week for 6 weeks, on motorways at the time; so i just thought it was using a bit due to the excessive work it had to do since I dont ussually travel so far & at speed on a daily basis. When I was driving home in the dark one night, my son & his mates in the back said they could see sparks coming out of the exhaust pipe, (I was on the motorway at the time doing 70. I have noticed that there are specks of oil all up the back of the tailgate. This really worried me. (My husband just reckoned it was the turbo though??) I have since looked on the ace answers site & realised that it was not the top up oil light, but the oil pressure light. Now I am really worried. Do you think I have a problem, or was I just putting too much oil in it? I have looked on the Ace answers, but I can't seem to find anything about what the low oil pressure warning light might means. Please dont laugh at my ignorance, I dont know about engines, and I thought I was just looking after my townie by giving it plenty of oil!

Oh dear. Drivind with no il pressure is Not Good. But sparks out the tailpipe aren't such an issue- if you drive hard some of the soot in the exhaust may be ejected burning.

Best get a mechanic to look at it ASAP. Red oil warning light = stop the engine!
