(Home) 4WD not working l4 lever stuck

have checked all ace listings regarding 4wd not working and not being able to engage l4. have same problem and dash light does not illuminate although plenty of clicking behind me when i press 4wd switch on and off on dash, although light never comes on.tickover increases when a/c engaged. have checked pipes and can find no leaks or disconnection on vacuum pipes. its doing my head in!!!. any other ideas as to possible problem. could it be the switch on the dash? can i override it? or is it the solenoid in transfer box? do they jam? would appreciate your help....please

Right. So you're in neutral, front hubs UNlocked (let's ensure there's no driveline stress...). Push the 4x4 button, drive forward a little. Light on yet? If so, now go back into neutral and try the lever. All OK? your problem was purely driveline bind.

Still not OK? Gotta trace the vacuum. Follow the pipe aft to behind the side door. With the engine running, check for vacuum. If OK, disconnect the two hoses to the actuator on the transfer case. You should have vacuum on one, and if you press the button it should revert to the other one. Still with me?

At this point you're left with either a duff actuator (seized or leaking, you can test for leaks by sucking on the hose spigots, and remove the side cover from it to test it's operation), or- and this is unlikely- a buggered transfer case...

Thanks David for your help. Looks like the actuator is seized.
